Dr. Padermsak Jarayabhand  is currently a senior lecturer and adviser at the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Maritime Administration, Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University. After retirement in 2013, he still serves as a member of the National Marine and Coastal Resources Management Policy and Planning Committee,  National Committee on Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of Biodiversity and National Strategy Drafting Committee for Eco-Friendly Development and Growth and the National Security Council's advisory board.

 

He earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in marine biology from Chulalongkorn University in 1974 and in 1978 respectively. After  two years of working as a researcher at Chulalongkorn University, in 1983, he received a scholarship to study a PhD program at Dalhousie University, Canada and finished his PhD program in marine biology in 1989.

 

During his 33 year of working at Chulalongkorn University, he has conducted various researches initially in  marine biology and fisheries (population genetic and genetic improvement of marine organisms) and eventually in marine resources and environmental management and planing. He was also a program managerof the Network for Research and Development of Aquatic Flora andFauna Industry of the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) from 2000 to 2008. His research work funded by TRF includes Present Status and Future Trends of Thailands Sustainable Utilization of the Sea in 2007 and Knowledge Management for National Marine Interests in 2010.

 

His research projects for government departments include State of coastal water quality for the Pollution Control Department in 2012 and the situation of marine and coastal resources and coastal erosion of Thailand for the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources in 2016. Aside from academic research, he hold the position of  director of Aquatic Resource Research Institute at Chulalongkorn University for two consecutive periods (1999-2007 and 2009-2013) and director of Multidisciplinary Graduate Program in Maritime Administration at Chulalongkorn University (2007-2013).

 

Gaining knowledge and experiences from his research projects, he started his advisory work in marine affairs for the government in 2007 when he was appointed as a member of the Sub-committee on Knowledge Management of National Marine Interests of the  National Security Council. Since then, He has been assigned to several national committees and working groups related to the management of marine resources and environment
